|
|
Good day ,
I operate on Windows 7 , everytime i run my squawk box on my FSX Acceleration it works for about 10 minutes and then freezes and says " FSX is not responding" but when i do not use the squawk box its fine. I Love Flying Online but when it freezes it really frustrates me. Please Give me a solution for this problem.
Sincerly,
Mitchell |

two things I found that helped (mine froze up too, at some random point after connecting to SB). I am using FSX acceleration as well, on Windows 7 64-bit.
1. Run SquawkBox all by itself; I got a warning that Windows Firewall was blocking some features; which I then chose to allow.
2. Go into the properties of the squawkbox program, and set priviledge level to "run as administrator", so it always runs as admin. Then you can use SB inside FSX, so you don't have to run it at all outside.
now everything has been working smoothly! |

| Did this fix yours. I tried it and I'm still locking up FSX when SB4 installs. |

| I'm running FSX on Win7 64 bit and it kept on crashing. Searches came up with loads of posts complaining about it.The was a suggested fix by changing a dll file called uiautomationcore. Something to do with 32 bit versus 64 bit! Ever since i did this FSX runs OK but it freezes when I try to load SB4 - usually at the loading aircraft information stage. Tried re-installing SB4 since i did the dll fix whilst SB4 was already installed but no joy. |

After a lot of reading it appears that you must run Squawkbox outside of FSX. Clicking the addon in FSX locks it up. Here is the process for start up. Start Squawkbox by clicking Squawkbox_FSX. Then start FSX. Connect to VATSIM in Squawkbox and the small box at the bottom opens up in the FSX Screen.
This is the only way I have been able to get it to work. The problem is you have to click out of FSX to see the Squawkbox info page. It won't overlay in FSX. A real pain. |

| Thanks - that works but like you say it's a real pain. Funny though, before i did the dll fix SB worked fine! |

Glad it is working for you.
What was the .dll change. I didn't see that listed anywhere. I did add the the uiautomationcore.dll file to FSX but I didn't change anything in the file.

| It was just the old vista 32 bit uiautomation.dll file that has been mentioned in numerous forums as the fix for FSX crashing in W7 64 bit. |

| Update - read an article in PC Pilot that said that FSX should be installed in its own directory in the root of the drive; not in the microsoft games folder where mine was installed by default. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled in the root and everything works OK at the moment! |
